Rebecca DriverDirector of Research and Chief Economist, ABI
Rebecca Driver joined the Association of British Insurers as Director of Research and Chief economist in 2005, where she is responsible for the ABI’s research and analysis. Rebecca is secretary to the Insurance Industry Working Group, which is co-chaired by the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Andrew Moss (CEO, Aviva). She represents the insurance industry on the Secretary of State’s Panel for Monitoring the Economy at the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. She is also a director of ORIC (Operational Risk Insurance Consortium).
Rebecca joined the ABI from the Bank of England where she worked for nearly eight years, latterly as Research Adviser to the external members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). Rebecca has also worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Economics at the University of Exeter and the University of Strathclyde and as an economist for the Economist Intelligence Unit. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Exeter.
Dave WarrenBusiness Development Manager, LV=
David Warren is the LV= Business Development Manager for the London Region. Formerly an apprentice football player for a well-known team beginning with ‘M’, David now plays five-a-side regularly, hacks his way round a number of golf courses and is a charity ‘sky diver’. He has worked for 7 years with LV=, successfully helping protection advisers to build their businesses and keep up to speed with the latest developments and opportunities.
Peter FoxBusiness Development Manager, Scottish Provident
Peter has worked in the insurance industry for 30 years representing 4 of the
major insurance providers.
During that frighteningly long time he has been involved in most market areas,
but, for a while, inhabited the specialised arena of Pensions and Divorce where
he was involved in training both advisers and solicitors.
Most recently he has concentrated on the Protection market during his past seven
years with Scottish Provident where his role has, amongst other things,
comprised delivery of adviser road-shows, network presentations and sales
training for both advisers and Scottish Provident staff.
Peter has also seen the world from the other side of the fence, having spent
time as an IFA with a Sheffield-based firm of advisers.
Stuart TragheimBusiness Development Director, LV=
Stuart Tragheim is Director, Distribution Strategy & Business Development
for LV=. Responsible for marketing, national accounts and e-commerce for the
Life and Pensions business at LV=.
Previously Director of Intermediary Business, Stuart joined the friendly society
in 2005 from the Association of British Insurers, where he had been Director of
the ABI’s Raising Standards scheme and latterly as Human Resources Director.
He was also previously Sales Director at the Teachers Provident Society.
Stuart has also held sales, marketing and technical roles within Schroders, TSB
(IFA division) and Skandia Life.
LV= is the largest Friendly Society in the UK and the 4th largest mutual
insurer.
Stuart contributes to the activities of a number of UK financial services trade
associations (for example ABI) and is currently Chairman of ILAG.
He is a Cert. PFS, holds a Diploma in Employment Law and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences.
Mark Joneshead of protection, Friends Provident
Mark Jones joined Friends Provident from Abbey Life in September 2000. He is a qualified actuary with a degree in accountancy. Most of his time with Friends Provident has been spent working on the Protection team. As Head of Protection Marketing Mark's main responsibilities are developing the Friends Provident Protection Proposition through the products, communications, promotion, pricing and actuarial bases. Mark is also actively involved in promoting and developing protection at a wider industry level, through his role as a Board member of ILAG and as a member of the ABI Protection Strategy Committee.
Lucy Widenkapersonal finance campaign project manager, Which?
Lucy joined the Personal Finance Campaigns team at Which? in May 2008. She manages Which’s? campaigns on protection insurance and reform of the banking sector. During her time at Which? she has helped deliver on-line campaigning actions for consumers and plan our media and parliamentary activities. She is also a media spokesperson. Before joining Which?, Lucy worked as Press and Public Affairs Officer for the Royal College of Physicians which included being the media and public affairs contact for the Alcohol Health Alliance. She was also Senior Campaigns Officer for the mental health charity Rethink, where her work included a successful campaign against the closure of a suicide prevention service in East Sussex.
Roger Edwardsproposition director, Bright Grey and Scottish Provident
Roger Edwards is Proposition Director for Bright Grey and Scottish Provident. He has been developing and marketing financial services products for over 15 years, specialising in protection products for the last 10. Roger was one of the founders of Bright Grey, which launched in 2003. Prior to that he was Head of Product Marketing at Scottish Provident. The two brands were brought together in December 2008, following the acquisition of Scottish Provident from Pearl by Royal London (Bright Grey and Scottish Provident’s parent company). Co-inventor of the 'protection menu' product, which is now an industry standard, Roger believes that modern menu plans provide the flexibility necessary to get the fit just right for every client. A frequent press commentator on protection products, Roger has also chaired and spoken at many conferences in the UK and the US. He is currently a member of the ABI Protection Strategy Committee.
Ian JefferiesHead of Sales and Marketing, Fortis Life (UK)
Ian joined Fortis Life in April 2007 and leads on the development of
distribution, marketing communications and product development.
Prior to joining, he had 24 years experience with Friends Provident, with key
roles including Head of Protection Marketing, Head of Investment Marketing and
15 years in intermediary sales (IFA and Appointed Representatives).
