Partha DasguptaChief Executive
Pension Protection Fund
Partha Dasgupta was appointed Chief Executive of the Pension Protection Fund in June 2006. He joined the Pension Protection Fund in January 2005 as Director of Investment and Finance where he led the development of the risk based levy and investment strategy.
Prior to joining the Pension Protection Fund, Partha spent ten years at Barclays Global Investors most recently as Managing Director, Fixed Income Europe. Partha started his career in 1991 at the Prudential as a valuation analyst. He is also a non-executive director of the Statistics Board.
Partha has a first class honours degree in mathematics from Heriot-Watt University.

CBI
Neil Carberry is Head of Pensions and Employment Policy at the CBI, leading the CBI's work on a diverse range of issues including pensions, working time and the National Minimum Wage. He returned to the CBI's pensions team in April 2007 after a period as Head of Public Procurement, a role in which he was responsible for CBI policy on the Private Finance Initiative. Neil initially joined the CBI as an employment and reward specialist after graduate study at the London School of Economics. Previously, he worked in the City as an HR Consultant.
Niki ClealDirector
Pensions Policy Institute
Niki Cleal is the Director of the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) with overall responsibility for leading and managing the PPI. The Pensions Policy Institute is an educational research charity with an objective to inform the public policy debate on pensions and retirement provision.
Prior to joining the PPI, Niki spent ten years in the UK civil service, initially at the NHS Executive and then at HM Treasury. While at HM Treasury, she led two independent reviews - the Review of the Actuarial Profession chaired by Sir Derek Morris, and the Review of Business - University Collaboration, chaired by Richard Lambert.
Niki is an economics graduate of Cambridge University with an MBA from INSEAD.

The Pensions Management Institute
Brian has 40 years experience in the pensions industry and is currently Vice-President of The Pensions Management Institute. In his career he has advised clients at all levels, largely with Mercer and Xafinity Paymaster. He moved recently to communication consultants Anthony Hodges Consulting as their Senior Communities Executive, to assist in the growth of Trusteeweb, their joint venture with the PMI to build an online knowledge-sharing centre for trustees and Pensionweb, the national online forum for pensions managers.

Steve is Chief Executive, PAN Governance LLP. Steve entered partnership with the PAN Trustee Group in January 2008 to spearhead the growth of the firm’s trusteeship and governance services. Prior to this he was Managing Director of Close TEAMS.
Steve qualified as an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute in 1993 and became a Fellow in 2000. He chaired the PMI’s London Region before being elected to the Institute’s Governing Council in 2001. He became PMI Vice President in 2005 and was then elected President in July 2007.

Lorna BucklandLinklaters
Lorna trained at Linklaters, and joined the Pensions Team on qualification in 1998 having spent some time working on pensions law in Hong Kong. She advises on all areas of pensions law including trust law aspects, documentation, corporate restructuring and M&A, scheme governance, funding and investment. Lorna also has experience of risk management exercises (including buy-ins and buy-outs) and international pension arrangements.
Kay CarberryAssistant General Secretary

Kay Carberry is Assistant General Secretary of the TUC, having previously been the first head of the TUC’s Equal Rights Department, set up in 1988. She is responsible for the TUC’s internal management and oversees work on pensions and equality.
She has served on a number of government advisory bodies on equality, education, training and employment, was a member of the Women and Work Commission and a Commissioner of the Equal Opportunities Commission. She is currently a Commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
She is a Trustee of One Parent Families, the People’s History Museum, the Work Foundation and a member of the Franco-British Council.

Lesley Carline is a well-known speaker within the pension industry particularly around Defined Contribution (DC) member engagement and communication.
With over 14 years experience, Lesley previously worked with leading pensions software providers and specialist third party administrators before joining Xafinity Paymaster. Lesley is both a chartered marketer and a Fellow of the PMI; she is currently the student web mentor for the Defined Contribution (DC) Module for the PMI.
Socially Lesley is a keen traveller and loves exploring new parts of the world, previous trips have includes trains across Siberian, China and New Zealand.

Wayne heads a team of actuaries and analysts responsible for the development of the risk management techniques used by Pension First. In doing so, Wayne is able to draw on his expertise with modern financial valuation techniques, including market consistent valuation and stochastic valuation approaches to asset and liabilities modeling, to ensure that a rigorous approach is maintained in all areas of risk management.
Wayne Chen is a UK qualified actuary with over 10 years experience consulting to insurers in the Life and Pensions sector. Prior to joining Pensions First, Wayne was a senior manager with Oliver Wyman, providing consultancy to major financial institutions in the UK and Continental Europe on a range of strategic issues.
Wayne’s experience lies in the area of risk quantification and risk management, having led the development of the economic capital and risk return frameworks for a number of global insurance companies. He is also experienced in M&A related valuations in the life insurance sector.

Christopher Clayton is a Managing Director at Close Brothers Corporate Finance Ltd and Head of the Pensions Advisory Group. He has over 25 years of corporate finance experience and previously held senior positions at Arthur Andersen and Grant Thornton. Following nine months on secondment to the Pensions Regulator in the Corporate Risk Management Team, Christopher advises companies and trustees on issues relating to mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and bulk annuity transfers.

Jason joined Wragge & Co in 2003 from Linklaters. He has experience acting for trustees and major corporates on all areas of pensions law.
He regularly speaks at seminars and contributes articles to industry publications. Jason is a member of the Association of Pension Laywers’ Legislative & Parliamentary Sub-committee which reviews all draft legislation. He is also a member of the Society of Pension Consultants’ PR Sub-committee.
Jason’s recent experience includes acting for a large multinational on the merger of its 8 defined benefit scheme to create a single multi-billion pound scheme and advising trustees on an innovative buy out structure.
Stewart CowleyDirector of Investment Management (Fixed Income)

After completing his doctorate in 1987 at Oxford University, Stewart joined the brokerage firm Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette as a graduate trainee working in New York in their bond division.
After switching to fund management in the early 1990’s he became Head of Global Fixed Income at INVESCO where he continued his interest in developing currency and bond investment processes and applying them to the increasingly complex world of global fixed interest. In 1995 he was appointed joint Chief Investment Officer at Hill Samuel where he lead a team that managed £10bn of bond assets.These included both retail and institutional funds.
Stewart joined Newton in 2000 as a member of our fixed interest team and is now Investment Leader, Fixed Income. He sits on our Investment Strategy Group and is a well known speaker and commentator on the financial markets. In 1999 he was commissioned to write a book about bond management.
Helen DeanProgramme Director

Helen Dean is a Programme Director at the personal account delivery authority. She reports directly to the Chief Executive of the delivery authority, Tim Jones and is responsible for Policy and Product Development, e.g. scheme design, liaison with DWP Policy on Legislation etc).
Helen joined the Department for Social Security in 1984 straight from University. Since joining the department she has been responsible for a number of programmes. These have included the introduction of a pension forecasting IT system and an interactive television service for pensions. She also worked on the introduction of the state second pension.
Helen has a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and an MBA (Distinction), University of Birmingham.
Helen moved to Pension Policy in 2002 where she had responsibility for Informed Choice and then for developing the policy on Personal Accounts.

Capita Hartshead
Kenneth Donaldson joined Capita Hartshead in 2007, as Director of Actuarial Services. Kenneth is responsible for the implementation and operation oversight of Capita Hartshead’s specialist services within the life assurance industry.
Kenneth was formerly a director of Higham Dunnett Shaw and played a key role in shaping the development of the company’s pension strategy.
