Susan Andrews

Susan is a Director of Trustee Solutions Limited, a company providing independent pension trustee services, acting as trustee for over 60 pension schemes.

She is the Chairman of the Independent Pension Trustees Group and was responsible for co-ordinating the preparation and update of a Code of Conduct for Independent Trustees.

Susan was the Secretary of the Association of Pension Lawyers for four years and is a Council member of the Pensions Management Institute, sitting on it Membership and Marketing Committee and acting as a trustee of the Institute's own pension fund.

Susan is also a Pensions Partner in the Pensions Group of Pinsent Masons in London and in Birmingham. She has acted for a number of household name PLCs, trustees, individuals and independent financial advisers on aspects of trusteeship, acquisitions and disposals, matrimonial, employment and insolvency issues, and on interpretation of scheme documents.

She has also been involved in dispute resolution especially before the Pensions Ombudsman, tPAS and TPR. Susan has also been one of the parties in a mediation in her capacity as trustee. Schemes advised have been the full range including final salary, money purchase, industry-wide, personal, FURBS and UURBS.

Susan is recognised by Chambers Directory and Legal 500 as a leader in the pensions field.

Nigel Aston

In October 2009 Nigel was appointed as Business Development Director for PensionDCisions, which provides independent analysis of individual consumers’ investment and saving behaviour. Nigel believes that it will be beneficial for the industry if we can help sponsors and trustees manage risk better, help providers develop more appropriate services, and allow members to be more informed and empowered. PensionDCisions is also the leading provider of research into DC default strategies.

Nigel has enjoyed a career of over 20 years in pensions, working across business development, marketing and investment strategy. Prior to PensionDCisions, Nigel was Head of Strategy & Propositions for the corporate channel at Standard Life and before that, he was at AXA.

Tony Baily

Tony’s clients include a number of major UK and multinational organisations. He advises employers on wealth management in the context of their broader remuneration philosophy. An actuary in Hewitt’s Corporate Pensions Consulting Team, Tony provides strategic and innovative consulting ideas on a full range of pensions and benefits issues.

Clients have called Tony a "no-nonsense" and "down-to-earth" consultant. He translates complex issues into easily digestible language to help his clients quickly and efficiently achieve their goals. You can often find him at conferences and seminars on pensions issues – and in both the national and trade press.

David BirdDavid Bird

David joined Towers Perrin in 1998 and is a Principal in the retirement practice, based in London. He has more than 21 years’ experience in the pensions industry, helping corporate clients with their employee benefit needs.

David currently has three roles within Towers Perrin, they are pension consulting for FTSE 100 companies and Remuneration Committees in relation to the executive directors; liability management exercises for mature defined benefit pension schemes including buy-out and assisting employers with large pension change projects

David has a BSc(Econ) from the London School of Economics, is an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute and a Member of the Personal Finance Society.

David Bird will also be chairing one of the sessions at the conference.

Phillip Bretnall

Phillip has been in the pensions business 26 years and has a wealth of experience of designing and executing operational-management strategies that support business and client objectives. His career includes 3 years in Australia as head of client operations and national practice head for an international benefits consulting firm as well as practice and change management leadership for major benefits consultancy and administration firms.

His formative years were spent at the coal-face of pensions administration in both systems and administration delivery roles; experience that has enabled him to truly understand the business of pensions administration.

Phillip was a founder member of RSPA and before joining ITM in August 2009 worked at the Pensions Regulator in both operational and policy lead roles.

Douglas AndersonDouglas Anderson

Douglas is a partner at Hymans Robertson, and is the inspiration behind the creation of Club Vita.

He has recently past his tenth anniversary of joining Hymans Robertson having previously spent the first ten years of his career performing ‘missionary’ work at the Government Actuary’s Department.

Douglas’ consulting work has been very varied, with work both in the private and public sectors. He advised the Deputy Prime Minister on demographic changes in local government, and has an active interest in improving longevity risk consulting techniques.

Sue Applegarth

Sue joined MNPA in 2001 and since then has been instrumental in the enhancement and development of MNPA's services to clients.

Sue has over 25 years’ experience in the pensions industry with a particular emphasis on major administration outsourcings. She was involved in one of the first major outsourcings in the 1990s (BP).

Sue regularly speaks at conferences on administration topics and is an enthusiastic supporter of initiatives to raise the profile of pensions administration. She is a member of the steering group of the RSPA initiative and is a past Vice President of the Pensions Management Institute. Sue is an FPMI.

Martyn is responsible for Prudential's DC relationship management team and is actively involved in product innovation and employee worksite communications. Martyn leads the Prudential DC Forum which focuses on thought leadership for the DC Market.

John BrokerJohn Broker

John is a Director at ITM and provides advice and guidance to a wide range of ITM clients covering administration data management and consulting issues. John has specific expertise on the recently issued Regulator Guidance on Record Keeping and Data Standards.
John qualified as FPMI in 1994 and his 25 years experience spans all aspects of pension administration consulting, gained from previously having worked in third party administration before joining ITM in 2007.
