Lawrence Eagles, Global Head of Commodities Research, JP MORGAN CHASE, Former Head of Oil & Gas, IEA
Lawrence Eagles joined JP Morgan Chase as Global Head of Commodities Research
in September 2008, bringing with him 22 years of experience across a wide range
of commodities.
Most recently Lawrence Eagles headed the Oil Industry and Markets Division of
the International Energy Agency, where he was in charge of the Agency’s short
and medium term oil market analysis and was the editor of the benchmark Oil
Market and Medium-Term Oil Market Reports. His work involved high level contacts
with the trading, analytical and corporate planning departments of industry, as
well as advising the governments of the OECD.
Prior to joining the IEA, Lawrence spent 16 years at the major European
brokerage, GNI. He joined the company as a graduate trainee, gaining experience
across a wide range of financial and commodity markets, spending several years
as a fund manager before taking over as head of research.
Paul Kelway, Corporate Treasurer, AIR NEW ZEALAND
Paul Kelway is Treasurer of Air New Zealand, responsible for the management of the financial risks of the company from fuel, foreign exchange, interest rates and liquidity. He also buys the fuel. He has worked for Air New Zealand since 1991.
Paul has a MPhil in Economics and MSc in Mathematics from the University of Auckland. He worked in the NZ Government Treasury as an economist before shifting to the banking sector and becoming involved in markets.

M N Ravi Shankar, Whole-time Director, LANCO ELECTRICITY UTILITY
Dr Shankar's present assignment at LANCO Electric Utility Limited is to develop the Power Trading, activities for the LANCO Group, in the FY 2008-09 LEUL emerged as a dominant player in the power trading, is largest private sector power trader in India, and is ranked at No.3 position . He is also developing an in-house Power Information Center for devising strategies in Power Sector for the group and making the organization as a leader in Power Sector among Private Players. He had contributed to the revolutionising the power tariffs for the long-term contracts in India. He is also associated with the Transmission, Distribution, and Generation activities of the Group.
Was instrumental in setting Tariffs for Sasan Power Limited, 4000 MWs – Rs.1.1961/kWh. Lowest tariff for such a large Greenfield Project in the world.
During his stint at APERC as Joint Director – Tariff, he worked on Electricity Act 2003, on issues of National Tariff Policy, Electricity Plan etc., all the suggestions made by him were accepted and incorporated. Further, he assisted APERC in preparing Regulations, Guidelines, on Transmission Charges, Distribution Charges, Surcharge, Additional Surcharge, Open Access, Trading, and SLDC etc. Helped the Commission in setting the principles under the Electricity Act, 2003 for the utilities. Had also assisted in developing in Regulatory Information Management System (RIMS) of the Commission for monitoring the utilities in Andhra Pradesh. He analysed the Tariff Applications of the Licensees and finalized the tariffs for the FY 2000-01 to 2005-06.
His efforts in formulating the tariffs for the said period, and with principles enunciated have resulted in AP getting No. 1 position in the country as per the ratings of ICRA and CRISIL for the power sector, and within 5 years of regulating the Licensees of power sector in Andhra Pradesh, all the loss-making licensees have made a turn around and are now reporting profits. They are now financially viable with reduced technical and commercial losses.
He shares his experience as guest faculty at Engineering Staff College of India, Administrative Staff College of India, and Central Institute of Rural Electrification in India.
Has had visited various countries in understanding the Power Sector. Delivered lectures as various International Forums on key issues of Power Sector.

Lionel Semonin, Founder and Chief Investment Officer, FOUR ELEMENTS
Lionel Semonin is the portfolio manager of Four Elements Capital’s flagship
fund: The Earth Element Fund. The Fund is a commodity, long/short,
systematic-fundamental fund investing in up to 30 commodities. Prior to this
Lionel was Global Head of Commodity Investor Derivatives at BNP Paribas (London)
where he was responsible for trading, structuring and distribution of commodity
derivative products targeting investor clients, in particular his role
encompassed setting up and managing systematic commodity strategies (e.g. CMRI
Index, BNP Paribas Comac strategies, ARAG strategies). Previously, Lionel spent
10 years at JPMorgan Chase where his last responsibility was to head the global
the Commodity Investment strategies group including the development of all of
their systematic commodity strategies (e.g. Commodity IGAR, DCR.)
Lionel is a CFA charter holder (2001) and has an MSc (Applied Mathematics and
Telecommunications) from the École Polytechnique Federale Lausanne, Switzerland
(1995). From 1991 to 1993 Lionel worked as a teaching assistant at the Swiss
Federal Institute of Technology.
Jonathan Kornafel, Director, Asia, HUDSON CAPITAL ENERGY
Jonathan is the Director of Asian Operations for Hudson Capital Energy which serves as a market-maker and strategic hedge provider in Exchange-Cleared futures, swaps and options. Jonathan was previously a Senior Energy Derivatives trader at SMW Trading Company where he spent eight years structuring and managing multiple derivatives positions in the option pits of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Jonathan appears weekly on CNBC TV, Bloomberg TV and BBC World News as an oil expert. He appeared as a guest in a Boardroomradio.com feature, “The U.S. Economy and Energy Markets”. Jonathan is quoted weekly in Bloomberg and Reuters news articles referencing the oil market and hedging activities.
Jonathan holds an MBA in International Finance from Fordham University in New York City and is also a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honour Society in Economics.

Peter is the Managing Director and founder of Commodity Warrants Australia (CWA) which is a structured product provider catering for the Australian and Asian retail investment markets.

Edgare Kerkijk, Managing Director, ASIA GREEN CAPITAL
Mr. Kerkwijk is a Managing Director and co-founder of Asia Green Capital, a
boutique advisory and investment firm based in Singapore, with a particular
focus on clean tech and renewable energy opportunities in Indonesia. Prior to
joining AGC, he was Partner and CFO for BioX Group, an integrated renewable
energy firm based in Europe. He still remains one of the shareholders. Prior to
its position in the BioX Group, he worked as a Director Institutional Sales at
State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) in Brussels and was responsible for the
Benelux Sales Team; one of the key institutional fund markets for SSGA. Before
that, he held several senior positions within Rabobank International in Europe
and Asia. In his last role at Rabobank, he was an Associate Director for the
bank’s merger and acquisition team in Southeast Asia and has advised on a wide
range of Corporate Finance and M&A transactions within Europe and Asia. He
holds a Masters of Business Economics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam
(the Netherlands) and a Bachelor of Economic Psychology from the Catholic
University in Tilburg (the Netherlands).
Asia Green Capital is a corporate finance and investment management firm. The
firm focuses on renewable energy and commodity companies in Europe and Southeast

Ravi Bala, Asia-Pacific Head, Commodities Marketing and Origination, CITI BANK
Ravi Bala is a Director and Head of Citigroup’s Asia Pacific Commodities Marketing and Origination team based in Singapore. In his current role, Ravi is responsible for origination and marketing of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives in energy, metals, agricultural, carbon credits and other commodities to corporate clients and investors in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to joining Citigroup in early 2006, Ravi was the Head of Asset-Liability Management at the World Bank in Washington DC responsible for managing balance sheet interest rate and currency risks. Ravi holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Maryland, College Park, US, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Francis Ho, Group Treasurer, CHINA LIGHT & POWER
Francis Ho is responsible for CLP Group Treasury including financing, FX, derivatives, fund management, financial risks management, credit ratings, banking relationships, compliance of treasury activities.
Before joining Group Treasury, Francis was a project financier at CLP Power Asia, specializing in project finance, investment appraisal, financial risks management and corporate treasury for CLP’s overseas investments in China, Australia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan. Francis held various management positions in investment banking before he joined CLP.
Francis is a founding member and the Vice President (Membership) of IACCT (China) and a member of HKACT. He actively participates in promoting the treasury profession through professional organizations and trade associations.
Joseph Jacobelli, Group Director, Carbon Ventures, CHINA LIGHT & POWER
Mr. Jacobelli is responsible for the Group’s low carbon related activities
comprising the management of carbon credits and low-carbon related investments
and projects. These include coordinating and maximizing synergies amongst the
Group's activities in renewable energy as well as in clean/low carbon energy
technologies. Mr. Jacobelli is also a Director of CLP Power Project Development
Ltd., CLP Research Institute Ltd. and CLP Research Institute (HK) Ltd.
Before joining CLP Holdings in June 2008, Mr. Jacobelli worked as a utilities
equity analyst for 18 years for several major global investment banks in Asia.
Mr. Jacobelli’s position before joining the Group was Senior Director at Merrill
Lynch (Asia Pacific) where he headed the teams for utilities and energy
technology sectors equity research in the Asia Pacific region. During his career
as an analyst, Mr. Jacobelli covered listed utilities in several Asian countries
such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and South Korea. He also worked on the
initial public offering of three Chinese infrastructure-related companies:
Guangshen Railway, China Power International and China Shenhua Energy. Mr.
Jacobelli studied in Italy, France and Australia, and received an MA in
International Law and Relations from the National Taiwan University.
Immanuel Edward, Head of CDM & Carbon Trading, ASIA CARBON GLOBAL
Edward has about 5 years of professional experience in conducting EIAs and also in the Carbon Market space. As a consultant, he has conducted several EIA studies in India for large Hydro Power Projects in the Himalayan region and also in Indo-china border. He has also conducted research studies in Forestry Policy in Asian Countries, Emission Reduction in Energy Distribution and also in Transportation Emissions in Asean Countries for government of Japan. His specialization is in Carbon Advisory for Industries and design of customized products for GHG Management.
He has developed and reviewed several Project Design Documents under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol for Emission Reduction Projects across Asia. He also leads the Asia Carbon’s Carbon Market Intelligence and Analytical team which conducts annual CER Price index for NEDO-Japan since 2006.
He has an excellent domain expert in GHG Management and Carbon Registry. He supports Asia Carbon’s IT team as a functional consultant for developing products related to GHG management and Carbon Registry. On honorary basis, he serves as an Associate Faculty in SIM University and Singapore Environmental Institute and conducts regular courses on Climate Change and Carbon Market for Senior Officials from developing countries and also for the local SMEs.
Apart from the Carbon Market space, Edward has also contributed for the Environmental Management. His Masters’ degree was titled “Wastewater Pollution Index for Selective Effluents” where an Index was developed using Delphi Technique.
Edward holds a Masters’ Degree in Environmental Engineering and several other diplomas in Environmental Management, ISO 14000 & 14001 and Industrial Safety. Ever since he joined Asia Carbon, he has been working on the Operation and Portfolio Management. Prior to joining Asia Carbon, Edward worked for a Research Institute in New Delhi, India.

Irfan Pawennei is currently the Senior Manager, Business Development of ACX-Change Pte Ltd, a company under ASIA CARBON GLOBAL. He has been leading the carbon trading initiatives that successfully structures carbon commercialization strategies for leading companies in Asia, Europe, US, and Japan. He has been actively involved on International conferences and CDM Workshops throughout Europe and Asia. His area of expertise includes identification of emission reduction opportunities in CDM project development, Carbon Asset Management, and carbon footprint assessment. He holds a Master of Science on Management of Technology from TU Delft, the Netherlands.
Ilia Bouchouev, Managing Director, Head of Energy Derivatives, KOCH SUPPLY AND TRADING
For the last ten years Ilia Bouchouev has been managing the global energy derivatives business for Koch Industries, the world second largest privately held company. Koch Structured Products group became one of the most active liquidity providers of energy derivatives to corporate end-users and hedge funds with desks in New York, Wichita (Kansas), Geneva, and Singapore. The group has pioneered a number of unique energy derivatives instruments and been recognized as a leading quantitative volatility trader in commodities. Ilia has PhD in Applied Mathematics, and has been a regular speaker at various industry conferences.
Eric Simon, Managing Director, Head of Commodities Sales,, SOCIETE GENERALE
Eric has a 10 year experience in the energy and commodities business in Europe and Asia. He started his career working with Gaz de France's trading arm Gaselys (joint-venture with Societe Generale), providing hedging structures to top 30 gas consumers located in France. He was also responsible for developing the hedging program offer to utilities in Southern Europe. After a short stay at Bank of America in London where he was in charge of building up the commodities sales business in Europe, Eric moved to Singapore with Societe Generale in 2006 and took the lead of the energy sales team, then worked in Sydney for 2 years prior to taking the challenge in early 2009 to manage the commodities sales team in Asia Pacific out of Societe Generale Hong Kong. Eric holds a Master specialised in Finance and International Trade from Business School of Strasbourg and a Master in International Economics from University of Lyon.
Dr Zhen Wang, Dean and Professor, School of Business Administration & Executive Director of China Energy Strategic Research Institute of China, CHINA UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM
Dr. Wang acquired his Ph.D. in finance at Peking University.
Dr. Wang’s research interests include energy finance and Risk management. Dr.
Wang has finished more than ten research projects sponsored by China central
government and three national oil companies. He has also published more than 40
academic papers and two books in the last five years. As an expert in energy,
Dr. Wang often published papers on Chinese policy for news.
Dr. Wang acquired 9th Global Finance Conference best paper award and best dissertation award by Peking University as well as many other academic awards.
Matthew Mueller, Head of Corporate Risk, WESTERN POWER
Matt is the Head of Corporate Risk Management at Western Power.
This role facilitates and develops risk based processes across the
business, reports to the board on the performance of risk
management, and assist strategy development and strategic change.
Previous roles include founding the Advisory Services arm of L7
Solutions, growing the business to a team of eight within two years
with clients including Wesfarmers, Rio Tinto and State Government.
Prior to this, Matt was worked at Deloitte Consulting in Perth, and in
the USA for Acxiom, Voleno Corporation and ANC.
Matt was awarded the prestigious Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship
in 2000, and was a guest lecturer at Curtin University School of
Business teaching strategy. Matt was also a guest speaker at

Iain Lawson, Head of Commodity Capital Markets, Asia, CITI BANK
Iain Lawson is a Director in the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities
(FICC) group.
Iain joined the firm in 2003 as an oil trader before moving into his current
role as Head of Asia Pacific Commodities Capital Markets. He has over 20 years
of experience in the energy business in Europe and Asia. He started his career
as a physical oil trader for 9 years with Shell before moving to Goldman Sachs
as an Energy Derivatives Marketer. After 5 years at Goldman, he worked at Koch
Petroleum Energy and Deutsche Bank in origination, structuring and marketing.
Iain is a Physics graduate of the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.
